KOHIMA, MAY 19 :With the political crisis going on within the Naga People’s Front (NPF) , the latest being the suspension of Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on May 17, the party’s central office headquarter in Kohima has been buffered with security since Wednesday.

A party official said that the security was a “precautionary measure.” The office had been the target of disgruntlement in the party even in the past. With the suspension of one of its tallest leaders, Rio, who led the NPF to its present magnificence since 2002, the party seems to be taking no chances.

It was learned that the NPF’s president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu and Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye, also the secretary general of the party, will be holding a crucial meeting with the party’s 11 Northern Angami-II assembly constituency on May 23 at the office. The constituency is Rio’s former constituency.

The NPF has seen intense internal crisis since January last year and the claims of ‘reconciliation’ appears to be going downhill.

The party also recently suspended one of its leaders, former minister Imkong L Imchen. As per sources, the fate of three more NPF MLAs are hanging by a thread as the party was being said to have issued show-cause notices to them on April 4. The NPF’s Disciplinary Action Committee is reportedly in the process of examining the replies of the MLAs.
