DIMAPUR — As a stocktaking measure for the ongoing preparation of the 2024 municipal and town council elections, a review and coordination meeting was held at the conference hall of the chief secretary in Kohima on May 29.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting was attended by the state election commissioner (SEC), the chief secretary, the home commissioner, the commissioner and secretary of the Municipal Affairs department, the state nodal officer for the state election commission, and the police nodal officer.
During the meeting, the chief secretary stressed the need for close coordination between the commission and the state government officers deputed for the election in order to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
The SEC briefed the house on various preparatory steps and measures that the commission has taken for the smooth conduct of the election and informed them that all necessary arrangements are on track.
The police nodal officer updated the members regarding the security arrangements being put in place to ensure a peaceful poll, and the home commissioner assured to provide all possible assistance towards the deployment of security personnel.
The SEC further informed the house that all electoral processes are proceeding as per the election schedule and requested all concerned to continue working with the same commitment to ensure that the election is successfully completed as scheduled, keeping in mind the submission to that effect made before the Supreme Court of India.
