MOKOKCHUNG — Season IV of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League kicked off at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Saturday.

Formerly known as the Mokokchung Friday League (35 and Kicking), this exciting football extravaganza has transitioned into the 35+ Mokokchung Football League, marking a significant shift from Friday to Saturday matches for its fourth season.

In his brief speech, match patron Chuba Phom paid tribute to the legacy of Ao pioneers in various fields, particularly football in the 90s.

He raised serious concern about the dwindling number of local talents from Mokokchung and encouraged the 35+ football enthusiasts to serve as “revivalist” to bring back the football legacy in Mokokchung.

He underscored the need for camaraderie among players, stating, “Let us make friends and not enemies.”

Dr. Lanuakum, reflecting on the league’s journey so far, recognised key figures like Jamonger, who played pivotal roles in sustaining the spirit of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League.

Lanuakum extended his gratitude to all registered league members for their unwavering commitment.

He stressed that being 35+ should not be equated with old age, emphasising that the league’s focus remains on fitness, fellowship, and friendship.

Lanuakum further encouraged players to relish the joy of playing, regardless of age, invoking memories of childhood days. He wished all participating teams the best of luck and urged them to continue scripting the history of the football league.

The first match played between Revenant FC and Meshenshina ended in a 1-1 draw. While New Ecclesia FC thrashed Wasang FC 3-0 in the second match. The last between Trebuchet FC and Senso also ended in a 2-2 draw.
