While most Naga students are afraid of the subject called Science during their academic pursuit, but for this 30 years old physicist, Dr. Sentitemsu Imsong say “Science is not difficulty but laborious.”
Dr. Sentitemsu Imsong, a sincere and dedicated researcher in Theoretical physic from Asangma village, achieved top 7 position in HSLC (2001) from Edit Douglas Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung. He also secured Top 3 position in HSSLC (Science) from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, and finished his graduation in flying colour by achieving Gold medal from the same college.
Right after his graduation, he completed M.Sc from the University of Hyderabad, and received his Ph.D from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in May, 2012 at the age of 27 years for his thesis “Improvement on hadronic form factors using analyticity and unitarily constraints.” He also did his post doctoral study in Germany for two years and closely one year in Israel.Dr. Imsong asserted that Science have not disproved God but it depend on who you asked the question because there are hundreds of scientists who have known more about God through their studies on Science. “If I didn’t have this relationship with God, I would have been pull away,” he said while stressing on his deep faith on God and his spirituality.
The physicist also observed that Naga youth have the potentiality to compete with rest of the people around the world. He, however, lamented that we are very laid back, don’t have the perseverance and careless when it comes to time management.
“We are infused from our childhood to fear science, we try to memories those concepts without digesting and understanding the concept,” he commented while adding that a science student should understand the whole concept instead of resorting to rote memory to get through the exams.
He therefore suggested the students to follow three principles that he had followed during his academic pursue “Focus-disciple-hard work.”
Dr. Imsong also advised that ‘analytical ability’ should be exercised by students while studying any subject particularly Science subject. Brought up from a humble Christian family, Dr Sentitemsu is the eldest among the three children. His father, T Imkong, is a clerk in the electrical Department and his mother, Alila Jamir a housewife. They are presently residing at Alempang Ward Mokokcung, where Dr Sentitemsu is an active CYE member of the Alempang Baptist Church.
He said, “I had toiled hard and I am proud of my achievement, I thank God for his blessing and my parent who support me to pursue my dream and teacher who have taught and motivate me,”
He will be joining the Institute of Mathematical Science, Chennai, on June 22 as a visiting fellow to conduct more research on his study field.
