DIMAPUR — Educational institutions celebrated Children’s Day on Thursday by organizing various activities.
Children’s Day is observed every year on November 14 to commemorate the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister, who was adored by the youth and affectionately referred to as ‘Chacha Nehru.’ The day is also observed to raise awareness of the value of childhood, child welfare and fostering an environment that allows children to thrive.
MGMHSS: MGM Higher Secondary School (MGMHSS), Dimapur, celebrated Children’s Day at the school premises, where the vice president, principal, headmaster along with two students from Kindergarten lit the lamp, symbolising the ignition of young minds.
In his p-residential address, Fr. Giju George emphasised the importance of education and character-building. He told children to always listen and obey their parents, elders and teachers.
Reji Abraham, school principal, shared valuable insights on nurturing young minds and fostering a love for learning and encouraged them to focus on what they want to be in life. He also told the students that childhood is the most beautiful period of their life and enjoy every moment of it.
Various presentations by teachers and students marked the celebration.
UCHSS: Unity Christian Higher Secondary School celebrated Children’s Day-cum-cultural fiesta at Diphupar local ground in the presence of Limathung Lotha, pastor of Lotha Baptist Church Diphupar; Dr. Yuireishang Phungshok, pastor of Tangkhul Baptist Church Diphupar; members of Diphupar Village Council and Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU).
The managing director of the school delivered the keynote address followed by various cultural performance and games.
PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS), Dimapur, celebrated Children’s Day with pomp and gaiety at the school auditorium.
Universal school prayer, songs and dances performed by the teachers marked the celebration, which was followed by the motivational speeches were delivered by the school principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee, and vice principal, PS Deb. In the speeches, both the speakers emphasised on that “Every child is a different kind of flower and altogether they make a beautiful garden.” They conveyed Children’s Day greeting to the students.
An audio-visual on the life and activities of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was also screened during the programme.
DCPU Mokokchung: The Mokokchung District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), celebrated Children’s Day with the children of Care & Support Children Home (CSCH) on the theme “Children of today, leader of tomorrow.”
A short message was shared by Moamenla, DHEW district mission coordinator, while Imnatola, district supervisor of DCPU-Child helpline, chaired the programme.
The celebration was marked by recreational games. Members of Juvenile Justice Board, DCPU staff, Child Helpline, Child Welfare Committee, Care & Support Society and DHEW attended the programme.
NSLSA: District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) under the aegis of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organised legal awareness programmes to commemorate Children’s Day.
The Children’s Day in Tuensang was celebrated with the students of Government Primary School (GPS) Upper Khel in Tuensang village, while in Longleng it was celebrated with the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya (KGBV) in Namching village and in Zunheboto with the students of Mt. Carmel Home in Sukhalu village.
In Mon, it was celebrated with the students of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Mon town, while in Dimapur it was celebrated at AV Hall of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and in Wokha, it was celebrated by visiting Special Juvenile Police Unit at Wokha Police Station. Kohima DLSA celebrated Children’s Day with the children of Destitute Home, Kezieke.
