SBI sensitises villagers on financial literacy prog

With the objective to enable the common man to better understand the needs and benefits of the products and services offered by banks, State Bank of India (SBI) has organised a one day Financial Literacy Programme (FLP) at Panchayat Hall, Tseminyu village in Kohima district on June 4.
Through the Financial Literary Programme, SBI hoped to create demand for financial products and services thereby accelerating the pace of financial inclusion in the village and State at large.
The programme was chaired by Gwanile Rengma, Branch Manager of SBI, Tseminyu branch, which was attended by chairman of Tseminyu Village Union, Village Council Chairman, GB, farmers, SHG members and retired government servants.
The resource persons comprising of Bikash Das, Chief Manager (Credit), SBI RBO, Dimapur; Th. Tunglut, Chief Manager cum LDM of Kohima district; AK Borah, Manager, Financial Inclusion, RBO, Dimapur; Bendang Aier, AGM, NABARD; Gwanile Rengma, Branch Manager, SBI; and Dr Temjennungsang, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), Animal Husbandry from KVK Kohima were warmly welcomed by members of LakethyÜ Logwa (SHG), Tseminyu village on behalf of all the participants.
During the programme, the participants were sensitized about the role of bank in financial inclusion, financial planning, financial discipline, use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to provide banking services in the rural/ unbanked areas, precautions to be taken while operating ATM/ Debit and Credit Cards, fictitious mails/SMSs offering money, chit funds, steps to be followed for resolution of grievance with bank including Banking Ombudsman Scheme 2006 of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and undertaking Income Generating Activities (IGA) on scientific lines. They were also briefed about the need to develop long term relationship with bank for all round development. This was followed by an interactive session where queries were satisfactorily responded by the Resource Persons.
Two booklets namely “Centrally Sponsored Agricultural and Rural Development Schemes for the Farmers of North East India” and “Financial Diary,” published by ICAR and RBI respectively were also distributed.
The programme was organized by SBI, Tseminyu branch, and supported under Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) which was managed by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
