SAYO serves ultimatum to NHIDCL over deplorable road condition

Dimapur, Feb. 17 (EMN): The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has served an ultimatum to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Coorporation Limited (NHIDCL) to repair the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama-Khuzama Police Check Post stretch of road on National Highway 02 without delay.

In a letter addressed to the general manager of NHIDCL, SAYO stated that the stretch of road is in deplorable condition and lying in shambles, causing inconvenience to the general public and commuters.

It stated that the road connects the people in Southern Angami villages and various districts to the state capital, other parts of the state and to tourist hotspot Dzükuo Valley. It added that the stretch of road is the lifeline for Manipur state.

“However, the road stretch from Kigwema to Khuzama Village has been left in a dilapidated state for a long time, and fore mostly the stretch from Jakhama till Khuzama village is in a hazardous state, making driving unpleasant and unsafe for drivers and commuters,” read the letter.

It said the construction work of the NH was undertaken in November last year, just before the Hornbill Festival and Statehood Day but “the preceding stretch was halted after the event commenced and till date no work was sighted further”.

The SAYO has urged the NHIDCL and the concerned contractors responsible for undertaking the work ‘to take prompt remedial steps and expedite the repairing work at the earliest to ensure pliable serviceable roads without delay’. It also appealed to the state government “to seriously intervene and look into the matter for the welfare of the public”.

The organisation went on to state that the agency responsible for maintaining the road will be held liable if “any accident or untoward incident occurs because of the hazardous road condition” on the particular stretch.
