SAS Medziphema hosts Japan Job Fair

DIMAPUR — The School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus hosted the ‘Japan Job Fair’ for 170 agricultural students, comprising of B.Sc. (Hons) Ag, M.Sc. (Ag) students and PhD (Ag) Scholars on August 26 at the school’s multi-purpose hall.

According to an update, the event was organised by the Embassy of Japan, New Delhi and supported by Japan Agricultural Corporations Association (JACA), National Chamber of Agriculture, Institute for the Development of Agricultural Cooperation in Asia and facilitated by ARMs Incorporation, Nagaland unit and IDAN, Government of Nagaland.

The eight companies that came for the job fair were Agricultural Cooperative Corporation MIZUDORI, AZU Ltd., Otsukaen Ltd., Kato Enoki Co., Saikoue Co., Ranmeisha Ltd., Act Farm Ltd., and Top River Ltd. based in various parts of Japan.

It was also informed that most of the company owners themselves came to recruit the students while a few sent their representatives, to showcase their activities and to invite the students to undergo ‘Technical intern training’ and ‘Specified skilled workers (i) /(ii)’, in agriculture and livestock sectors.

First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in India, Masami Ota highlighted on the importance of the job fair and its significance for both countries. 

A video about Japanese agriculture was shown, followed by an explanation for working in ‘Technical intern training’ and ‘Specified skilled workers  (i)/(ii)’ by Kohei Aoki from National Chamber of Agriculture, Japan.

Aoki gave a detailed discourse on what was expected from the students and also what the companies offered and the guidelines for finding placements, the most important criteria being the ability to learn and speak Japanese language.

Each of the company owners and representatives talked about their activities and also presented videos of their operations.

Individual consultations for students with the respective companies were also conducted where the students interacted with the representatives through interpreters who had come with them.

The job fair also witnessed an agricultural science graduate from Uttar Pradesh who made his maiden visit to Nagaland to fulfill his dream of working in Japan.

The direct interactions at the job fair provided a great opportunity for the students to learn first-hand about the company’s culture and the working environment which created a positive impression upon them.

Many expressed their desire to learn the Japanese language so as to pursue a career or receive hands-on training and experience through internships in Japan, the update stated.

Earlier, welcome note and introduction about Nagaland University was delivered by Prof. Akali Sema, Pro Vice Chancellor, SAS, Medziphema Campus.
