Kohima, June 28 (EMN): Expressing dissatisfaction over the construction of Sanuorü Bridge, on the way to Secretariat, moving at a snail’s pace, the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) has warned the department concerned that it will take its own course of action if the work continues at the current pace, “for which the department shall be solely responsible for any untoward incident.”

Following incessant downpour that wreaked havoc in Kohima last monsoon, seven major bridges, including Sanuorü Bridge in the state capital collapsed last year, affecting the normal life of the people.

KYVO officials led by President Dzuvinguzo Mepfuo said during an interaction with the media persons on June 27 that the work order for the bridge was issued on July 14, 2016 but ‘work could not be materialised even after 18 months’ (duration for completion of the bridge), thus prompting the AG to ask for cancellation of the work order after the audit.

With no progress in sight after the Sanuorü Bridge collapsed, the KVYO served an ultimatum to the department on October 16 2018, after which the work for the two-lane bridge commenced with a commitment to complete it before this monsoon, said the organisation. It added that the organisation was compelled to write a representation to the Chief Minister of the state on August 13 2018 for immediate repair of roads and Sanuorü Bridge work execution.

“But the execution of work, which is hardly visible even after almost three years from the issue of work order and again put to rest before the onset of the monsoon, is just unacceptable,” stated KVYO.

Meanwhile, the organisation has appreciated the government for improving the roads in and around Kohima.
