The government high school in Yangphi in Kiphire town is reportedly going through hard times from various problems, from infrastructure to classes, for which a local students’ organization has asked the state’s education authorities to intervene.
The United Sangtam Students Conference (USSC) issued a press release on Friday informing about the issue.
On September 11, the USSC visited the lone government high school in Yangphi in Kiphire town. During their visit, the members of the organization met with the school’s authorities, the faculty and representatives from the students.’The “meeting resolved to seek the concern department intervention on the status and standard of the school been upgraded into lone government high school at the district headquarter,’ the press release stated.
According to the organization, the school shares ‘same school campus with government high school and government primary school’ while the class rooms “are beyond the standard.” Further, the school also does not have a “protection fencing to safeguard the school property and school land encroachment,” the students’ organization explained.
The USSC has expressed resentment at the ‘government and authority in concern’ as to “why the school is neglected even after the up gradation into government high school.’
The union also demanded that free textbooks, uniforms and mid day meal programs should be ‘implemented strictly’ so that the students are deprived of their ‘due share’ provided by the government.
The press release explained that the students of Yangphi high school had expressed concern to the USSC about difficulties since RMSA teachers began agitating. The school’s students have been left ‘without teaching, learning many subjects from the month of August till date as RMSA teachers are mostly the subject teachers in class 9 and 10.’
The USSC cautioned that “if timely intervention is not initiated for those devoted teachers to resume to their normal school duties,” the group would “take own course of steps in the interest of their teachers for the welfare of the students in general as it directly affect their career.”
The USSC also stated that the school was ‘running without assistant headmaster’ who was transferred. The group has appealed to the directorate of School Education to immediately depute an assistant headmaster to the school. Likewise, they have also sought a science teacher at the earliest
The USSC explained in their words: “…with the failure of Govt.
In solving such issues in time ,it has directly hampered the career of the school students and it is also one of the factor in bringing poor result percentage in Givt. High Schools HSLC result especially under kiphire District.”
The organization has urged the department in concern to intervene “upon the genuine demand of teachers and extend its solidarity and support towards the RMSA teachers on the non release of sixth month salary demand.”
In the meantime, the students’ organization has urged the government and teaching community of RMSA to “immediately resolve the issue timely as students are deprived of the Right to Education.’” The state government is told to intervene with “remedial measures” in the interest of the students’ community.
The members of the USSC has assured “all possible help to pressurize the genuine demands of the school”, the press release stated and urged the members of Yangphi school to “extend their best service for the welfare and development of the school and asked the teaching community to give their best with due regular in their duties…”
Further, the organization informed that the RMSA teachers’ agitation has left government high school students still waiting to have a number of syllabus covered ‘in all the subjects especially for class x’ students.
‘Therefore, the United Sangtam Students Conference voluntarily assist the aggrieved students for free coaching classes for mathematics, science and English subjects from 14th of Sept. 2015 at Cambridge High School from 3:00pm to 4:30 pm till aggrieved teachers agitation is resolved.’
