DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20

SAND Stockists & Suppliers Union Dimapur has condemned the burning down of a sand-laden truck at Doigurung in Golaghat district by an unruly mob at around 1.30 pm today.
President of the union Viniho Shohe and general secretary Nito Sumi, in a release, said the truck (NL07A 0040) was kept in a village for safety due to the ongoing tense situation in Golaghat district, but miscreants beat up its driver Jamaluddin and handyman before taking it towards the highway and set it on fire.
Both the driver and handyman of the truck are missing after the incident, the release said.
As per information, the union said, the miscreants were targeting only Nagaland registered vehicles and termed it as very unfortunate and condemnable.
It demanded that the Assam government compensate for the losses incurred by burning down of the truck in Assam.
The union also appealed the Golaghat district administration to rescue the missing driver and handyman and ensure that no other trucks bound for Nagaland are targeted by miscreants.
