Sainik School celebrates 10th founders’ day

Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) celebrated its 10th Founders’ Day on May 13 with LL Doungel, Director General of Police, and Smt Kimi Doungel as the chief guest and guest of honour in the presence of senior officers from army, members of Old Boys Association (OBA) of Nagaland, parents and village elders.
The chief guest and the guest of honour were received by Group Captain Sanjay Gaekwad, Principal Sainik School, Punglwa, and was presented guard of honour by the NCC cadets of the school. Later, the chief guest inaugurated the newly constructed Arjan Singh Indoor Sports Complex and Science & Arts exhibition on theme “Science and Arts exhibition of everyday life.”
Various working models in different categories prepared by the cadets were displayed in the exhibition. In addition, creative prize winning photographs captured by the Photography Club members were also displayed.
The cultural programme began with the lighting of “Lamp of Learning” and release of the school half yearly news magazine “VYWOM” (Voice of Young Warriors of Morung) by the chief guest. The Principal delivered the welcome address and presented the school’s annual report highlighting the achievements during the academic year 2016-17.
The Principal, in his annual report, asserted that the school remains focussed on its objective “One aim, one goal NDA.” He mentioned that the NDA training is given longer impetus by means of conducting intensive all round grooming of cadets. He also mentioned that the school endeavours bore results as three cadets of the school qualified in UPSC (NDA) written exam for 138 NDA & 100 Course Naval Academy adding one out of the three, Cadet Kewingam Newmai had cleared SSB at 34 SSB, Allahabad.
He said the efforts made by the school towards all round development of cadets by means of creating associated infrastructure and through various training programme will yield results in the time to come.
The cadets of SSPN presented a spectacular cultural potpurri which included songs, dance and skit. For the first time, ‘Kachari folk dance troupe’ from Dimapur entertained the audience with their culturally rich and colourful dance form and skills. A special Bhangra dance from Punjab was presented by the tiny tots of Blooming Buds Foundation School, a school which looks after the educational requirement for the children of staff and nearby village upto Class V.
Smt Kimi Doungel gave away the awards for Best in Academics (Individual) to Cadet Mari Riba, Best Sportsman of the Year to Cadet Himalya Mridha, Best OLQ to Cadet Tokhuo Humtsoe, and Best passed out Cadet to Cadet Kuyi Nienu. Doungel also presented overall Academic Trophy to Japfu House and the prestigious Cock House Trophy for the academic year 2016-2017 was given to Patkai House.
LL Doungel, in his address, appreciated the talents exhibited by the cadets through cultural extravaganza. While advising the cadets to be successful in life, he stressed upon identifying imperfections and to remove those from within. ‘Everyone is born genius and made to be successful provided one is able to introspect himself,’ Doungel said.
He also complimented the parents and termed them fortunate for giving their children an opportunity to study in Sainik School. While wishing success to young cadets, he expressed that the country will see future leadership in armed forces from Nagaland.
