SAC of NERC discusses power scenario in state

DIMAPUR — The 17th meeting of the State Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Nagaland Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was held on September 27 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.

Chief Engineer, Department of Power (DoP), Penrithung Yanthan, gave a presentation on the power scenario in Nagaland, a DIPR report stated.

The Directorate of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) also gave a presentation on the initiative and achievement of the NRE and chief electrical inspector, Atoho Jakhalu, highlighted the roles and activities of the electrical inspectorate.

Among others, the SAC deliberated on the need for a more comprehensive state power policy covering tariff policy and renewable energy policy, policy decisions required on reform and restructuring proposals of DoP, and issues and challenges of communitisation with the Power department.

The meeting also discussed power woes in Dimapur, issues of weak distribution system, up-grade and capacity addition in pace with rapid load growth.

The SAC advised the DoP to plan and ensure quality power supply to Ganeshnagar, Industrial area and also the need to sensitise consumers on the advantages of pre-paid/smart meters.

The meeting was chaired by Khose Sale, chairman of NERC.
