DIMAPUR — Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) commissioned the “Augmentation of water supply by gravity system and retrofitting with functional household tap connection under Jal Jeevan Mission” in Rüzaphema village in Chümoukedima district on September 26.
An update from the department informed that the project could be completed after about a year of diligent effort.
The chief engineer and head of department, Repangyangba Longkumer, who was the guest of honour of the event, commended the exemplary cooperation extended by the people of Rüzaphema village to the department. He acknowledged the fact that piped water supply had returned to the village after a hiatus of over 15 years.
The chief engineer stressed the importance of not treating the scheme as an ‘orphaned’ project but rather as an asset owned by the villagers themselves. He urged the community to diligently maintain the newly established infrastructure and operate it efficiently to ensure its sustainability for the entire designated period.
Meanwhile, the residents of Rüzaphema village have expressed their happiness for fulfilling their long-standing desire for improved water supply.
Report stated that the community had contributed in the form of cash, kind, and labour, which exceeded the mandatory 5% of the project cost.
The chief engineer emphasised that the success story should serve as an example to other stakeholders towards achieving the common goal.
The programme concluded with the declaration that Rüzaphema village has now achieved the coveted status of ‘Har Ghar Jal.’
