Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), Dimapur, organised a week-long skill training of rural youth (Stry) programme on “Organic farming: Opportunities for youth in agriculture” from January 19 to the 25th in Selouphe village under Dhansiripar block.

An update from Atma Dimapur stated that rural youth were imparted skills on agri-based vocation during the training. It added that norms of the scheme were executed as per the standards by the national policy on skill development and entrepreneurship of 2015 under sub-mission on agriculture extension (Same) of national mission on agricultural extension and technology (Namet) of 2015-16.

It stated that Kaiho Achumi, assistant technology manger, chaired the inaugural programme, while Avitoli K Yeptho, deputy project director, deliberated on the importance of organic farming as an alternative source of employment for the youth in the ever-changing agriculture scenario of the country.

Panchong Konyak, HEA; Kaiho Achumi, ATM; Aketoli Chopy, ATM; Avitoli K Yeptho, DPD; were the resource persons of the training.

While majority of the youth desired to see their future outside agriculture, the resource persons have enlightened them by stating that many good job opportunities on and off the farm remained in agriculture. They have challenged the participants to make agricultural sector competitive through innovation and investment in order to attract the young and old alike. A total of 15 participants attended the training programme.
