Moving on with aspiration of maintaining cleanliness and also in consonance with the prime minister’s movement of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (‘clean India mission’), the Ward Adoption Committee (WAC) for Bayavü colony, in Kohima town, along with the Bayavü Area Panchayat undertook a massive cleanliness drive in and around the colony yesterday.WAC was constituted by Kohima District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) under the initiative of its chairman and Parliamentary Secretary Khriehu Liezietsu.
Maintenance of cleanliness within the colony is also one of the priority lists of Bayavü, said WAC (Bayavü) convenor Vikeduolie. He said that the committee was formed last year but the works were being carried out now. He asserted that the committee would try to work towards fulfilling the requirement of the colony for a healthier life.
He also said that the colony’s proposal for a multi-purpose community hall near the Scouts and Guides’ office would also be worked out.
Panchayat chairman Khinyi Woch was appreciative of the concept of ‘adopting’ wards/villages by the Kohima District Planning and Development Board. Among the many projects to be taken up under the ward adoption program within Bayavü, he said, there is one that would repair colony roads, construction of alternative road from the Working Women Hostel to Tinpatti and setting up of a police beat post, as the colony houses many government offices and also personalities.
Besides, many requirements and priority areas, he said the colony has identified five ‘beautification spots’ within the colony which are likely to be taken up in the coming years.
It may be recalled that as part of its yearlong activities 2014-15, the Kohima DPDB has selected 4 villages and 2 wards, one in each assembly constituency to be adopted by a committee consists of 10 district departmental heads with the concerned elected members as advisor.
The committees will be headed by executive engineers with one member to be selected amongst the members as member secretary. The board has earmarked an amount of Rs one lakh for each committee for meeting the necessary expenditure. Two best teams (rural and urban) will be awarded at the end of the year with an amount of Rs. 25,000 each based on given criteria which is to be evaluated by a core committee.
The following wards/villages have been selected for adoption during the year: western Angami assembly constituency -Thekrejüna; 9th Kohima town-Naga Bazar; 10th northern Angami assembly constituency -Bayavü; 11th northern Angami assembly constituency -Tsiemekhu Bawe; 14th southern Angami assembly constituency -Pfüchama; 15th southern Angami assembly constituency -Khuzama.
The main objective of the adoption is twofold: analyze and access the living conditions of the villages/wards –economy, education, health, social conditions, and create awareness and assist them in whatever way they can within their capacity; develop intimation and cooperation amongst the visiting team members to bring about changes in the district.
The Kohima DPDB has been implementing this program for the past three years and has already covered 18 villages so far.
