Dimapur, May 16 (EMN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has expressed its desire to a live debate with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) over its claim of standing for “transparency, accountability, meritocracy and good governance” while responding to the former’s demand for President’s rule in Nagaland.

Terming NDPP’s tall claim as hilarious, the RPP said it is serious about its desire to conduct a debate in a town hall or college auditorium in front of a live audience, and urged the former to accept the proposal.

It once again appealed to the government of India to impose President’s rule in the state, claiming that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government has failed on all fronts- not being able to pay salaries of 130,000 employees and ‘break-down of constitutional machinery’.

The RPP went on to say that corruption had been exposed in NITI Aayog’s 2021 report which labelled Nagaland as the worst performing state in six parameters — poverty, health, affordable energy, sustainable cities, industry and infrastructure. The Centre’s think tank’s State Energy and Climate Index (SECI), which was released in April this year, ranked Nagaland in the 33rd position out of 35 states and UTs.

“Under the circumstances, the dismissive claim of the NDPP that issues of corruption and non-disbursement of salaries are inconsequential is utterly disrespectful, immoral and shameful. Article 365 is a compelling feature of the Indian Constitution, and President’s rule is more than applicable in a failed state such as ours,” the party stated, while asking the NDPP to contact it to arrange a debate.
