DIMAPUR, JANUARY 2

Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio has expressed ‘pain and shock’ to learn the demise of Pihoto Awomi, who passed away at Dimapur on December 30, 2015. According to Neiphiu Rio, Pihoto Awomi was a member of the erstwhile Dimapur Town Committee, a former member of Dimapur Municipal Council, president of the Dimapur District Cricket Association and Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association.
“Throughout his life, he was committed towards the welfare of society especially the weaker sections and the youth. He tirelessly worked to help and assist the needy at all times,” the condolence message said.
Rio then said that Awomi’s commitment towards the youth particularly in the arena of sports and games was commendable. He was an active member of the sports fraternity and made significant contributions as an able sports administrator. His dedicated commitment, selfless sacrifice and hardworking nature will be greatly missed by the entire sports community, especially within the Nagaland Cricket Association. Rio then said that in Pihoto Awomi’s death, the citizens of Dimapur have lost a down to earth leader and ‘we in the Nagaland Cricket Association have lost a committed colleague’. The vacuum created by his demise will be difficult to replace, Rio stated. “The entire sports fraternity of the State joins me in extending our deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prays to Almighty God to let the departed soul rest in peace,” Rio’s condolence message added.
