Just established themselves into the musical world, SKYLARK strives to fly high with their music and make a place for themselves into the hearts of music lovers.
EASTERN MIRROR: An insight into Skylark’s birth
SKYLARK: We the SKYLARK consist of four members from Dimapur which came to life in the month of August 2016.
On Vox/Rythm Guitar we have Imna Tzüdir, On Guitar/backing vocal we have Bendang Aier, on Bass/backing vocal we have Yanger Lkr and on Drum/backing vocal we have Bendang Kichu.
EASTERN MIRROR: What does your band name signify and where did it come from?
SKYLARK: Skylark signifies a bird that sings while it flies high. It signifies Unity, Strength and Confidence. The Band had a big discussion regarding the name of the band but initially we could not get it done. However, we ended up with the name Skylark when we were taking a break while the current was down at the jamming Pad. Kudos to the Fluctuation of current in Nagaland.
EASTERN MIRROR: How do you describe your music to people new to you? What are the contributions that each of you make?
SKYLARK: Skylark sticks with the Genre as Indie Grunge Rock, Garage Rock and Alternative rock.
Our Band is very much in tuned with the word “UNITY”. When it comes to writing a new song, all the four has our own inputs in it. We never settle for something on the first go and that’s what brings the band members more closely and not forgetting making better music.
EASTERN MIRROR: What are the main themes or topics that you cover?
SKYLARK: Well we are sort of a rebellious type of band. The song of the band mostly talks about the Present Sufferings/Lifestyle of the people, their Needs, Dreams, Rights, and Realities. But the bottom line is, we strive for peace and love in the society.
EASTERN MIRROR: Working as a group is not easy especially when each individual has different ideas and taste. How do you work it out? Any issues you have faced initially?
SKYLARK: It is true that as a group we have different ideas and taste especially when it comes to music, and well who doesn’t. But we take it as a challenge. What we actually do is we put our ideas together and try to create something new by digging our best on it. We sort of hunt for better ideas and Music. We are never really in a hurry to complete a new song or cover one.
EASTERN MIRROR: Share us your musical memories that ‘Skylarks’ have had so far. What makes it special?
SKYLARK: When it comes to playing music, we give our best and enjoy every stage moments with everyone around us. We never really perform, we have fun. We have this funny and memorable incident we faced on our way from Dimapur to a gig at the Capital, where we had opportunity to face starvation, literally because we were broke. We ended it with 20 Buck Good day Biscuit for the four and a cup of tea each. Of course on our journey back we were escorted by Gandhi’s behind our back pockets. This incident however motivated the band a lot. It reminded us that whatever we aim for, if only we put in hard work and determination, success will be ours. God Helps Those Who Helps Themselves.
EASTERN MIRROR: What is the ultimate direction for your band?
SKYLARK: The ultimate direction of the band is to strive for Glory, Fly High, Aim High, Work Hard and most importantly Pray.
