Imcha

Imcha Imsong from Mokokchung is a talented singer who is presently working as an Associate Youth Pastor at Tuli town.
Imsong says though singing rock songs has always been his comfort zone, his theological journey introduced him into various genres of music.
The budding artist is also a member of the Ao dialect band ‘Osen’ where he is the lead vocalist.
He says, ‘I belief in the language of music and when I do sing I put in all of myself into the words and sing my soul out, and that’s one thing I would want to take further to influence the youth through each and every word of my songs.’
His original ‘beautiful mess’ written by his friend talks about self- enlightenment with of course Gods grace.
Read on to know more about Imchas’s journey

12345 5EASTERN MIRROR: How would you like to introduce yourself to those who haven’t heard of you yet?
Imcha Imsong: I would definitely like to be called as Imcha, born and raised in Mokokchung from a very ethical family. I have always been enthusiastic in giving my service to the utmost possibility which is what I have achieved as a youth pastor and an artist, the dual service for the great God has been going along well together. Also as far as my original song is concerned “Beautiful Mess” is my first piece of original to have been released.

EASTERN MIRROR: Working as a youth pastor at Tuli and having the gift of singing, how do you make use of your talent to bring change among the youths of today’s generation?
Imcha Imsong: Like I have mentioned earlier, to do my best has been my utmost priority and so working as a youth pastor and my passion for singing has been going hand in hand. Hence I belief in the language of music and when I do sing I put in all of myself into the words and sing my soul out, and that’s one thing I would want to take further to influence the youth through each and every word of my song.

EASTERN MIRROR: When did you start writing/producing music – and what or who were your early passions and influences?
Imcha Imsong: As far as I remember it was during my high school that I had the opportunity to write my first song with the help of my friend for Music Fest at MTBA but then after, for some reason I wasn’t much into composing but went more into singing. Later on in the year 2011 I genuinely begin to fall in love yet again with writing my song and as of now I am on for a life time contract LOL. Ironically during my initial days rock music largely influenced me and that’s one genre I am in love with till date and to name two of my favorite band it has been Alter Bridge and Kings of Leon. With sheer delight, my list of Christian Artist begins with Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe, Zach Williams and Bethel Music.

EASTERN MIRROR: How would you describe your own development as an artist and the transition towards your own voice?
Imcha Imsong: Basically singing rock songs has been my comfort zone which didn’t leave any room for other genre but as I started my theological journey it introduced me into various genres of music, being an active member of Clark Theological College choir where I had invested five years which eventually refined my vocal skills. And to say, that has solely been the reason behind the transition.

EASTERN MIRROR: What were your main compositional challenges in the beginning and how have they changed over time?
Imcha Imsong: Since I am more inspired by spiritual insights to interpret into lyrics word by word, it has been a little challenging initially but over the years I have picked it up and I am able to do much better.

8EASTERN MIRROR: As mentioned at Indihut, you are also a member of an Ao dialect band “Osen.” Imcha Imsong: Would you like to share your connection with the band?
Imcha Imsong: Thanks for asking. Yes of course Osen has been one of the best experiences in my singing career, we are of three members i.e., Imnawapang, Imsentiba and myself who are also working as associate youth pastors. I take on the lead vocal and we have released eight songs which I would request all of you to hear.

EASTERN MIRROR: Your first single, “beautiful mess” has been released and it sounds beautiful. What can you tell about this track?
Imcha Imsong: Oh thank you, I am humbled. I have been excited about this song and finally God made my dream into reality. The lyrics have been written by a good friend of mine, and this song basically talks about self- enlightenment with of course God’s grace.
