Rengma students undertake ‘green initiative’

Dimapur, May 3 (EMN): In commemoration of its 75th anniversary scheduled from May 12 to the 14th, the Rengma Students Union (RSU) undertook a plantation drive under the banner ‘Clean and Green initiative’ on May 3 and 4.
On the first day, students and volunteers picked all plastic and non bio-degradable waste from the highway covering 26 km stretch. The team will also undertake plantation of fruit trees and other ornamental trees within the stretch of National Highway on the second day.

During the previous in 2021, the RSZ (youth organisation) planted about 4000 tree along the highway, which has become an annual event.

Speaking at a brief programme, Jenny Kath Thong, BDO of Tseminyu block, remarked that “Our planet is not in a good shape and it is on us to take care of our environment. We are privileged to have clean and pure air but there are many people around the world who do not enjoy this blessing. For the sake of our own future we have to start acting now. This green initiative will help raise environmentally conscious citizens.”

The launch event was attended by senior RSU leaders, student volunteers, BDO Chunlikha block, Tiangro Ao, and other leaders.

On the occasion a prayer was said by I Anung Lemtur, pastor of Ao Baptist Arogo Tseminyu town.
