Reckless driving: Truck rams into road divider

In a case of reckless driving, a truck driver rammed his vehicle into a road divider along Khermahal road in Dimapur on August 7 around 9 pm.

DIMAPUR — In a case of reckless driving, a truck driver rammed his vehicle into a road divider along Khermahal road in Dimapur on August 7 around 9 pm.

The truck, bearing registration number NL-07 A-5952, crashed into the road divider damaging around 15 metres of the concrete divider and the plantation on the divider. Though the front of the truck was badly damaged, there was no report of any casualty or injury.

The road divider was constructed by Team Better Dimapur, which also looks after its maintenance. A member of Team Better Dimapur who happened to be on the site at the time of the incident apprehended the driver and handed him over to the traffic police.

According to Team Better Dimapur’s estimate, the damage done to the divider will amount to around INR 20,000. The traffic police have reported assured the team that the cost of repairing will be borne by the truck driver.

However, one of the team members was not convinced that the truck driver will bear the expenses as this was not the first incident of reckless drivers damaging public property.

“All our effort of painting, repairing and maintaining are wasted. We had handed over reckless drivers previously to the police for damaging properties while they had also assured us to repair them. This is not the first incident but to date, no one has repaired or paid for the damages. Moreover, we do not have the budget to keep on repairing the damages caused by drunk or reckless drivers,” he lamented.
