Re-poll in DMC Ward 20 concludes peacefully
DIMAPUR — The re-poll for the Urban Local Body (ULB) election at polling station -4 under ward 20 of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), concluded peacefully on Friday at Government Primary School, Imkonglenden Colony.
The election was held under strict security measures with over 100 security personnel from the Nagaland Police, NAP (IR), and Special Task Force (STF) deployed at the site.
Polling began at 7:30 am and continued till 4 pm with only district administration and security personnel allowed into the polling station compound.
The Returning Officer informed that 800 out of 1048 registered voters cast their ballots. The ward encompasses Circuit house, Ura Villa and Imkonglenden colony.
Notably, during the election process, 10 alleged proxy voters who were from outside the ward were detained and taken in for questioning.
Meanwhile, both the candidates– Dr. Kahuka Sema (Independent) and Lanuchuba, (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party)—expressed satisfaction with the re-poll, deeming it free and fair.
The candidates said that the decision to take re-poll was rightly made by the authorities, and expressed confidence in their respective chances of winning when the votes are counted on Saturday, June 29.
76.33 per cent turnout, says SEC
In a press note issued on Friday, the State Election Commissioner, T John Longkumer informed that the re-poll was held peacefully without any untoward incident.
The polling recorded a voter turnout percentage of 76.33%, he said, while lauding the District Administration and law enforcement agencies for the smooth conduct of the entire process.
The SEC also informed that the overall poll percentage for all the municipalities after updation stands at 81.98%.
The counting of votes will be held on June 29, from 8 am onwards in all the approved Counting Centres, he added.
