•             The defaulters shall be penalised and strict action shall be taken against them by the Mon Block Civil Society.

Meanwhile, the KU Mon Unit on Thursday apprised the deputy commissioner of Mon on the rally against illegal drugs and intoxicants-cum-cleanliness drive.

In a letter to DC Mon, the KU Mon Unit, on behalf of the Mon Block Civil Society, said that Mon town is currently at war with drugs and fighting a tough battle that is far from over.

“We are at our wits end trying to bring in new measures to not only control but eradicate all forms of intoxicants from our town. This herculean task can only be possible with the cooperation of all stakeholders, especially from the bureaucracy and civil organizations,” the letter read.

The union also pointed out the poor condition of roads in Mon town which have not been repaired for the past 2-3 years, posing grave risk to both motorists and pedestrians, especially school children and elderly people.

It went on to state that the people in Mon town are suffering a lot due to the negligence of the cleanliness aspect and poor sanitation. “There are piles of garbage at every corner emitting foul smell. Some roads have ditches and all these things lead to health hazard,” it stated.

The union urged the DC to ask all involved to cooperate in the fight towards a better society.
