A true symbol of motherhood was Rakhi Devi Sethi, aged about 91 years. The wife of the late Kanhaiyalal Sethi, the first Gaonbura of Dimapur, and the mother of renowned Dr. Bijay Kumar Sethi and brothers, left for her heavenly abode during early hours of December 6 at her residence in Old Daily Market in Dimapur. A lady, who with her warmth and kindness could capture anyone’s hearts is how one can describe Rakhi Devi the best. She was a compassionate mother in the true sense of the term, who always showered the nectar of her love & blessings on Dimapurians.
The news of the sudden demise of the popular old lady of Dimapur sent shock-waves amongst the citizens, who turned out in large numbers to pay their condolences to the departed soul. In her funeral procession, people from every walk of life were present to pay their homage to the holy soul. Her last rites were performed on 07-December-2013 (Saturday) at 10.00am at the Dimapur cremation grounds.
Rakhi Devi was born at Indokha (Rajasthan) on 10-August-1923. After getting married to the famous Late Kanhaiyalal Sethi, she was settled in Nagaland. She was a worthy mother, whose sons and daughters are very well established in life and have been contributing a lot towards service to mankind, all round enhancement of the society & entrepreneurship growth in the state of Nagaland.
Even her advancing age could not put restraint on her indomitable spirit towards charity, inculcating high moral and social values in her near and dear ones.
Dimapur has lost a great soul and symbol of motherhood in Rakhi Devi and it is an irreparable loss. Persons with such affection and love are hard to come by in this age of materialism. She was such a blessed lady, who never any sorrow in her long journey apart from the departure of her husband and a grandson to the heavenly abode.
Sethi has left behind a legacy of exactly 100 members which includes renowned advocates, politicians, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, MBAs & other highly learned individuals.
She always used to wear an affectionate and endearing smile on her face, which reflected her motherhood & compassion for all. She was associated with various social activities and was very popular with people across all walks of life.
Her unflinching devotion towards religion & ethics shall always be a guiding force and inspiration for all.
