Rainfall likely in NE in next 5 days

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall warning for Northeast India with fairly widespread, light or moderate rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, gusty winds “very likely” during the next five days.

Isolated heavy falls are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during May 10 to the 12th and over Assam-Meghalaya and Mizoram-Tripura during May 9 to the 12th.

According to the department, on May 9 scattered rainfall is expected over Kohima, Phek and Kiphire; fairly widespread rainfall over Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang and Longleng; isolated rainfall over Peren while Dimapur is expected to remain dry.

On May 10, widespread rainfall is expected over Kohima, Peren, Wokha, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang; scattered rainfall over Kiphire and Phek and fairly widespread over Dimapur. On May 11, fairly widespread rainfall will continue over Dimapur along with Phek, Zunheboto and Kiphire; widespread rainfall over Kohima, Peren, Wokha, Tuensang, Mokokchung, Mon and Longleng.

Fairly widespread rainfall will continue over Dimapur, Peren, Kohima, Zunheboto and Wokha on May 12 while widespread rainfall will continue over Mokokchung, Tuensang, Longleng and Mon and scattered rainfall over Phek and Kiphire.

 Meanwhile, Northwest and Central India will experience a fresh spell of heat wave conditions which is likely to commence from  May 9, the India Meteorological Department reported on Sunday, while a cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ over southeast Bay of Bengal warning has been issued.

The department reported that a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C was very likely over many parts of Northwest India during the next three days and no significant rise in maximum temperatures over other parts of the country.

Temperatures between 40-42°C were reported over most parts of East Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, in some parts of south Haryana, Marathwada, south Madhya Maharashtra and in isolated pockets of southeast Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, northern Tamil Nadu and interior parts of Odisha, while in  the last four days Dimapur district’s maximum temperature was reported to be 34°C till Sunday.

After experiencing rainfall, Dimapur witnessed a rise in temperature from Thursday (May 5 ) with maximum temperature of 33°C, on Friday the temperature reported was 33.4°C, 34°C on Saturday and on Sunday it reported 34.3°C.

According to the Soil and Water Conservation department Nagaland, Kiphire reported a maximum temperature of 31.6°C on Sunday, Peren reported 32°C, and Mangkolemba reported 32.2°C.
