Pughoboto honours meritorious students

Encouraging students from the interior areas to excel in their educational pursuits, the Pughoboto Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) on Tuesday, June 2, honored three students from the area for achieving ‘topper’ positions in the recent high school (HSLC) and higher secondary school-leaving certificate (HSSLC) board examinations conducted by Nagaland Board of School Education.
The HSLC toppers are Kitoka V. Assumi (top-4) of Don Bosco School of Kohima and Tolino Chishi (top-6) from Little Flower Higher Secondary School of Kohima.The board also honored Kivi Swu of Little Flower Higher Secondary School of Kohima for her being subject the topper in I. I. Technology (100 marks) and Iholi Swu of Ruzhukhrie Government Higher Secondary School of Kohima for securing the highest percentage among government schools in Kohima district.
The HSSLC achiever was Lovitoli Lohe (top-10) of the commerce stream from Baptist College of Kohima.
Addressing the toppers, Minister for PWD (R&B), Y Vikheho Swu, who is also the chairman of the Pughoboto SDPDB, encouraged them to ‘manage success’. Achieving the top position in the high school and higher secondary examinations is not the end, he said, but that they need to move higher and achieve more.
Saying that Pughoboto was a ‘blessed’ area ‘because of the good deeds of the ancestors’, he said students from the area have been doing fairly well in the high school and higher secondary examinations while even government high schools were performing well.
The minister handed over a cash award of Rs. 10,000 with citation to each of the toppers.
On behalf of the recipients, Lovitoli acknowledged the Pughoboto SDPDB for felicitating them. She asserted that the students would work hard towards bringing more laurels and fame to the sub-division.

Rs 5 lakh sanitation award instated for Pughoboto

To encourage efforts toward improving the sanitary conditions of the rural masses and also marking the current initiative in the form of the sanitation program, the Swacch Bharat mission, local representative and Minister for PWD (R&B), Y Vikheho Swu has instituted an award called “Clean Pughoboto Award”.The cleanest village amongst the 24 village under Pughoboto sub-division would be receiving the award of Rs. 5 lakh.
He announced the investiture of the award during the monthly meeting of Pughoboto Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) under Zunheboto district in the Dobashi court in Pughoboto. Swu said that villages under Pughoboto should start the cleanliness drives ‘as inspections would be conducted anytime during the next four months’ by a committee set up for the purpose.
Swu, however, clarified that it should be made known to the villagers that the award of Rs. 5 lakh was to be given through the Local Area Development Programme and was not for ‘distribution amongst the individual household.’ It should be utilized for infrastructure development for the common benefit of the winning village, he said.
The award will be given away during the second Thuwu-Ni Pughoboto to be held in November, he said while also reminding that the Clean Pughoboto Award has also been initiated as part Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat campaign.
This was the first meeting for the chairman of Pughoboto SDPDB, Y. Vikheho Swu after being elevated as Minister for PWD on May 8 last.
The house also dwelled on room extension to provide science laboratory for Pughoboto GHS. After thorough deliberation, the house decided that the matter would be taken up with the Education Department while some funds would also be provided through the LADF.
On grant-in-aid sought by private schools of the area, the chairman suggested that before approving the SDPDB should make proper verification on the performance of the schools. The House also agreed that the school authorities should be asked to attend the SDPDB meetings and present their case for approval even after completion of the required formalities.
Earlier, chairing the SDPDB meeting ADC and vice chairman, Nokchasashi welcomed all the members while also reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting. He also introduced the new members of the board. EAC Pughoboto, Salem Thonger was the session secretary.
