DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 2: In the wake of recent arrest of principal-in-charge and a senior teacher of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tura in West Garo Hills, Meghalaya on charges of raping two students, prominent NGOs and civil societies of Garo Hills have called a public rally on October 4 to protest against the sexual abuse.
GSU CEC, Tura president Tengsak Gabil Momin and general secretary John Miltu Sangma in a memorandum to Minister I/C School Education & Literacy, Shillong, Deborah C. Marak demanded that the accused teachers be terminated from their jobs and penalized under the strictest law possible.
They also demanded that the Kendriya Vidalaya School must employ more locals so that such perpetrations are curbed. They also urged the Bar Association not to defend the accused who humiliated the students.
“The activities of the teachers, especially the act of giving personal tuitions, must be monitored that will balance the overwhelming influential and pervasive power of the teachers of the school.”
