Prohibitory orders imposed in Longleng for 72 hours

District Magistrate of Longleng, Dharam Raj, has imposed prohibitory order in Longleng town under section 144 CrPC, 1973 whereby movement and unlawful assembly of more than five persons have been prohibited from 12 noon of March 3 till 12 noon of March 6 (72 hours).

However, any assembly of security personnel, people for religious events, funeral services, marriages, examinations, schools, government offices, carrying of or loading and unloading of essential goods would remain exempted from this order.

The order further said curfew in town would no longer be extended and normal life in Longleng town with prohibitory orders would resume.

“As per the reports from the security agencies, peace, and tranquility have been established in the town post the conduct of the General Election 2023. There does not seem to be any serious threat to the peace and tranquility, lives, and properties of the general public within Longleng Town.

“There are exigencies and circumstances that do not permit serving due notice upon the public, this order is passed ex-parte under subsection (2) of section 144, CrPC, and is directed in the larger public interest,” it read.

It said any person found violating the order would be punished under section 188 Indian Penal Code with imprisonment for up to six months, a fine, or both. Dimapur, March 4 (EMN)
