Programme for best performing schools held in Kohima

DIMAPUR — The Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the Office of the District Education Officer, on Thursday conducted a programme for the best performing government schools (Assessment of pass out rate of girl child) in Kohima district.

The programme held under the slogan “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” coincided with the International Women’s Week celebration.

Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, in his speech, said that BBBP is an initiative of the Indian government to encourage and empower the girl child in the country.

The DC urged for participation of girl child and women in the society.

Ramnikant also congratulated the schools for their performance and urged the students to achieve their ultimate goal, and also urged parents to stop discrimination between a girl and a boy child.

District Education Officer, Emilo Patton, in her address, said that education is a fundamental right which provides girls with quality education and empowers them to reach out their full potential.

Patton also said that education challenges gender roles, encourages greater economic growth, gender equality and reduces poverty.

Based on the assessment of the HSLC records during the past four years, she said enrollment and pass percentage rate of girls were better than boys.

She further encouraged the girl students to do their best to become productive members of the society

The programme was chaired by Moasunep K Jingru, EAC Kohima and nodal officer, Mission Shakti.

Rüzhükhrie Government Higher Secondary School, Government High School, Chandmari Government Middle School, Aradhura Lerie Chazou and Government Primary School, Garuzou, were awarded as the best performing government schools in Kohima district, the update informed.
