DIMAPUR — Marking a significant milestone towards improving healthcare access for rural communities, the inauguration of the ambulance service (mobile health service) for the people of Nsong circle and Kebai areas in Peren district was held at DC Complex, New Peren on August 16.
The ambulance service launched was under the initiative of Pro Rural (Pro Rural Society), a grassroots development NGO operating in North East India since 2009, an update stated.
Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, the chief guest, in his address, said that the Pro Rural programme will benefit the people in rural areas where there are inadequate health facilities.
The DC appreciated the concept of the ambulance service, which will allow the doctors and nurses to travel to different village. Meru also requested a follow-up report on the treatments provided to ensure continued collaboration for future rural healthcare efforts.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Peren, Dr. K Limatula Ao also highlighted on how the people of Nsong area are suffering in terms of healthcare services. She assured that the department will extend support to the Pro Rural programme in accessing healthcare facilities for the socio-economic development of the rural people.
Director of Pro Rural, Paul Lokho, who shared on the motivation behind the initiative, recounted the poignant experience of witnessing youths from Lalong village carrying a patient on a bamboo stretcher, which sparked the vision for the project.
Chairman of Nsong village, Hairangum Pame expressed gratitude for the organisation’s dedication to support their village and thanked the Pro Rural and concerned agencies for providing the much-needed ambulance service.
Dr. L Belho also shared his journey of reuniting with the Pro Rural and their joint commitment to bringing essential healthcare services to the villagers.

Earlier, Imnanukshi Phom, project coordinator of Nsong Circle, delivered the welcome address in the programme chaired by Pfokho John, assistant director of Pro Rural.
The programme concluded with a prayer and the blessing of the ambulance by Kunamyi Neimi, pastor of ZBC Jalukie,
Later, the deputy commissioner and the chief medical officer jointly flagged-off the mobile health service.
“This initiative represented a crucial step forward in ensuring that essential healthcare services reach even the most remote communities, reflecting a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of rural populations,” it stated.
