Imphal, Dec 3 (EMN): Manipur Information and Public Relations Minister Thongam Biswajit on Sunday said that steps are on to construct press colony and park for the media persons considering their grievances in the state.

The legislator also informed that the new office of the Directorate of Information and public relations which is presently under construction at Keishampat behind Raj Bhavan Imphal complex will be inaugurated within March next year.

Biswajit made the disclosure while addressing the silver jubilee celebration of the Tangkhul bilingual newspaper Aja Daily at Tribal Research Institute auditorium in Imphal on Sunday.

MLA Khashim Vashum,a tangkhul leader who was elected from Chingai constituency in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, lauded the efforts of staffs and owners  of Aja daily in keeping alive the newspaper in Tangkhul dialect to its current status from its initial formative days of scratch against all odds on the way even though the community has produced many officers at various level.

Director Meghachandra Kongbam of Information and public relations, President A Mobi of Editors’ Guild Manipur,its general secretary Yumnam Rupachandra, President Ramkung Pamei of Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union, Rev L Simon Raumei of Manipur Baptist Convention and others also attended the silver jubilee celebration.

Editor of Aja Daily, Valley Rose Hungyo, the only lady editor in the state, also felicitated its former and present staffs by presenting token of love and gifts while the best staffs and hawkers who continue to work in her establishment till date were also honoured with small cash incentives.

It may be mentioned that the Aja Daily is the first ever Tangkhul daily newspaper in Manipur established on December 3, 1992. Earlier a monthly Tangkhul magazine titled-“Aja Kachang” was released during a function in Imphal on October 11 this year.
