Dimapur, May 23 (EMN):
In what will help provide reliable power supply to oxygen plant and nearby areas during the pandemic, the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PowerGrid) has commissioned an additional 10 Mega Volt Amperes (MVA) transformer at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) sub-station in Dimapur.

The executive engineer of Dimapur Electrical Division, Imsenkaba, told Eastern Mirror that the 10 MVA transformer is funded by North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) which is implemented by the PowerGrid, a public sector unit under the Power ministry.

He added that the new power transformer is yet to be officially handed over to the Power department of Nagaland due to the pandemic.

The executive engineer went on to say that the power sub-station will now have 20 MVA capacity following the upgrade.

He informed that power shortage is always there in Nagaland and they are trying to avoid load shedding in areas where Covid hospital and power plant are located so that it would not affect their work, and while doing so it would somehow affect supply of power in other areas.

Imsenkaba went on to inform District Hospital Dimapur, now Covid hospital, has a dedicated 500 KVA and an additional 250 KVA, while the CIHSR has a dedicated 2.5 MVA transformer.

The Ministry of Power also updated through a press release that the PowerGrid team swung into action after the state government and its Department of Power Nagaland (DoPN) urged the firm to commission a 10 MVA transformer at Referral Hospital (CIHSR) sub-station in Dimapur “to reduce the instances of power interruptions, and ensure efficient power supply to Nagaland’s only oxygen plant”.

It added that within two days, the PowerGrid team successfully commissioned the power transformer at 7.30 pm on Saturday.

“The new power transformer commissioned by PowerGrid at 33/11 kV Referral Hospital (CIHSR) Nagaland will add to the power system reliability of BMA’s Liquid Plant situated at Naga United village, which was earlier fed by 5 MVA Transformer. By commissioning the transformer, quality power is now available to oxygen plant round-the-clock through 11 kV outgoing Rongmei feeder of Sub-station,” read the update.

Dedicated power lines to all district hospitals, Covid centres

Meanwhile, Advisor of Power department, H Tovihoto Ayemi had a meeting with the chief engineer D&R Moa Aier and executive engineer (Electrical) at his residence in Dimapur, wherein the crucial role of the department during the pandemic was reviewed and assessed.

“In the meeting it was decided that dedicated power lines will be rendered to all the district hospitals and Covid centres in the state, ensure adequate power supply to all the oxygen generating plants, assign exclusive team of linemen/ technicians on duty 24/7 to attend to emergency calls related to power in the Covid hospitals and centres and assured that the department will try it’s best to ensure Power stability to all the Hospitals/ CHCs / PHCs and in the state,” read the press release from Power department.

Ayemi lauded all the officers and staff of the department for their dedication, hard work and commitment to serve the people, stating that the whole workforce of the power department work round the clock even during the lockdown, “to ensure proper power supply to all”.
