Dimapur, Dec. 14 (EMN): The department of Power, Electrical division, Wokha on Monday commissioned an additional 5MVA to the existing 33/11K 5MVA power transformer.
An update from the department stated that there has been an increase in the power demand over the last 15 years, yet the existing transformer has neither been upgraded nor augmented.
With the installation of the additional 5 MVA, the district will now have 10 MVA, it stated.
It said that Wokha district would have ‘adequate power supply for at least ten to twenty years.’
Meanwhile, Lotha Hoho Chairman, Mhondamo Ovung who graced the occasion appreciated the state government as well as the department of Power on behalf of the Lotha Hoho and Lotha community. The chairman thanked Chonronthung Ezung, divisional engineer for initiating the development as the district is presently facing irregular power supply.
Lotha Hoho in a separate update had also stated that the town, ‘with the lone 5 MVA transformer has been reeling under frequent power interruptions due to the incapacitated transformer.’
“Many Power department chief engineers and divisional engineers have come and gone and they have been requested and knew the problem. But they have passed their tenure without attending to the need of the people of Wokha town,” it read.
It said that ‘only this time with chief engineer Moatumsu Aier and divisional engineer ChonrothugEzung, have taken the initiative to fulfil the need of the Wokha town people.’
It further urged other departments to follow suit by doing the needful for the people of the town, such as health facilities, water supply, roads, education etc.
“All these improvement works can be done, only with public co-operation and transparent administration, with sincere commitment to their people by the elected leaders,’ it added.
