Political parties kick-off campaign in Kohima

KOHIMA — Indian National Congress (INC) and National People’s Party (NPP) in Kohima kicked off campaign for the upcoming ULB election on Friday.

Speaking at the campaign for party candidate, Ameka A Zhimomi, Nagaland lone Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir, stated that he would strive to reach out and collaborate with grassroots people.

Ameka A Zhimomi will contest from KMC ward 17 (Agri, Electrical, and Forest colonies) in the upcoming Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) election.

Jamir informed that the Congress party has set up two candidates for KMC election.

He has solicited votes for the two young candidates from the party namely Ameka A Zhimomi from Ward 17 and Imsanger Jamir from Ward 18.

In his speech, Zhimomi shared his hope of establishing a council with representatives from every sector of the colonies in his ward, ensuring that funds are used appropriately for development by considering the opinions of all concerned.

In another programme at the same ward, P Kezo of NPP highlighted his 32-year residency and the need for development in the area. He addressed issues such as water scarcity, youth empowerment and parking congestion.

Kezo also emphasised the importance of generating funds to address drainage and footstep problems, working with the public, installing CCTV and providing public health care.

Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, MLA from Kohima town, endorsed Kezo as the sole NPP candidate and the only Chakhesang candidate. He emphasised that Kohima town belongs to all tribes, religions and castes, aligning the party’s vision with inclusiveness and equality.

Another NPP candidate, Thejanuo Whuorie, launched her candidacy campaign in the evening at Ward 13 (Chandmari Lower colony).
