Police conducting state-wide checking of vehicles – DGP Sharma
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma said that the state police has recently started checking of vehicles in about 300 locations throughout the state in an effort to bring down crime rate and ensure safety and security of the citizens.
Towards this end, the police chief sought the support and co-operation from all section of society in strengthening the hand of Nagaland Police, a DIPR report stated.
Sharma was addressing an interactive meeting with police officers and civil society organisations, including the Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Lotha Youth Hoho, Lotha Student’s Union, DB Union and Wokha District Village Council Chairman Association at SP office conference hall, Wokha, on August 17.
He also highlighted some of the important activities taken up by the police mainly in relation to control of drugs menace in the state. Reminding that the number of cases registered in the different police stations does not reflect how peaceful the society is at large, he asked the officers to find out how crimes are taking place and act accordingly in order to maintain law and order.

He lauded the efforts put in by Wokha Police, led by the Superintendent of Police and all rank and files, in maintaining law and order in the district.
Further, Sharma appealed to the CSOs not to take law into their own hands. He affirmed that police are always there for the safety and security of the people and urged them to trust the police in order to maintain peace and tranquility.
Sangthing Khiam, SDPO of Wokha, presented the crime overview statistics relating to various cases such as NLTP, NDPS, vehicles and other activities.
Representatives from the CSOs highlighted to the DGP about the drug menace in the district, strengthening of forces in the borders areas and influx of illegal immigrants.
The interactive meeting was chaired by additional SP, K Soriso, while SP of Wokha, Aotula T Imchen, delivered the welcome address.
The DGP was accompanied by DIG (Range), Uniel Kichu, and DIG (NAP/IR) Chumrenthung.
