Police bust notorious criminal gang

IN a breakthrough, Diphupar police personnel arrested three accused in the murder of auto driver Gulya Ahmed and theft of his auto rickshaw. Gulya, 21, was a resident of Burma Camp, Dimapur and son of Abdul Danish of Nagaon. His body was recovered from Khughovi village under Niuland sub-division on February 7.
The stolen auto rickshaw (NL07F 7304) was recovered on February 10 from Nihoto village area following revelation of the arrested accused. The accused have been identified as Hussain Ali @ Amir, 19, son of Soyaga Ali of o Doboka, Assam, presently residing at Hollohon village. Feroz Ali, 18, son of Jamal Ali of Tezpur, Assam and Rahul Ali @ Akbar, 19, son of Hussain Ali of Churaiburi, Agartala, presently residing at Eralibil, Dimapur.
The accused belong to a gang of criminals who were earlier arrested along with a 9 mm pistol with four rounds of ammunition on February 9 by Diphupar police and Dimapur police mobile patrol party.
The gang had hijacked a Manipur-bound truck and abducted the driver and handyman for ransom.
On interrogation, the accused admitted to hiring the auto rickshaw on February 6 with pre-planned intention of committing the crime. On reaching Khughovi village area, the accused strangled him with a scarf. They disposed the body and hid the auto rickshaw in the woods near Nihoto village to dispose of on a later date after finding a prospective buyer.
The accused also admitted to kidnapping at gunpoint and assaulting another auto driver identified as Rupal Biswas on the night of February 5 at Eralibil, near Garo Baptist Church. They admitted to looting the victim of cash amounting to Rs 1200, his mobile handset and one spare tyre of the auto rickshaw which were recovered by police on their revelation.
The gang is believed to be involved in several other serious crimes in Dimapur which the police are now investigating.
