Police arrests five, busts fake certificate racket in Dimapur

Dimapur, May 17 : Dimapur police arrested 5 persons in connection with forged document business following an FIR lodged by a principal of reputed school in Dimapur on May 13 at East Police Station Dimapur. 

The matter came to light when one of the accused Atila came seeking for admission in Class XI for the academic 2016-17 by submitting fake pass certificates of HSLC/NBSE of Class X of the same school. However, the school authority got suspicious and after thorough scrutiny of the documents it was detected that documents submitted by Atila was forged with an unauthorized seal and signature of the school.   

The matter was brought to the notice of East Police Station Dimapur by the principal and in this connection the ‘Dimapur East Police Station registered a case (No. 137/2016 U/S-465/468/471/474 IPC) and the team led by Investigating Officer ASI Mhasivolie arrested a 20-year-old Atila Y.Yimchunger from Dimapur who went seeking for admission with the forged document and during investigation two more men Yankiu Yimchunger, 45 and Thrilongba Sangtam, 40, were arrested from Kohima. 

Consequently, the main accused Lichotri Sangtam, 40 (male), was arrested from Dimapur.  The fifth accused Daniel Aye who runs a printing shop at Midland was also arrested with a possession of one poly stamp machine and 10 unauthorized seals. 

The police informed that during investigation, it was ascertained from the four accused who voluntarily admitted that Atila approached Yankiu to help her get a fake pass certificate of class X.  Then Yankiu through his friend Thrilongba procured one Class X fake pass certificate from main accused Lichotri in Dimapur and sold it to Atila with Rs.20, 000 from which both the co-accused Thrilongba and Yankiu received commission of Rs, 12,000 and Rs, 8000 was given to the main accused Lichotri. 

The investigation team during the search at the residence of the main accused Lichotri at Oriental colony recovered 54 unauthorized seals, one desktop PC, Printer and some fake documents including HSLC/NBSE mark sheets, admit cards, transfer certificates,  NU certificates and surprisingly, transfer certificate of St. Dominic’s College Shillong Meghalaya was also found in his possession. 

The police said three of the accused have been forwarded to judicial remand and the investigation is in progress.  The police also informed there is a huge network of fake document rackets in the state and the public should be aware of as such cases come under Criminal Act.
