Kohima, Oct. 25 (EMN): While stating that Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) are the backbone of the State Legal Services Authority, justice of Gauhati Court and executive chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA), LS Jamir, has urged the PLVs to let their vision see the requirement of the people and help them understand and assure their service as and when required.

Speaking at the inaugural programme of a three-day refresher training of the PLVs at the auditorium of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Kohima, on October 24, justice LS Jamir urged them to take the training as an opportunity to venture into grey areas that has not been reached.

“It is important to see whether sensitisation has taken its reach and enter into the next process of rehabilitation,” justice Jamir said adding that “the important function of PLVs is to reach the grass root level.”

“Do not wait for opportunities, but go ahead on how to help the underprivileged section of the society,” Jamir added.

Member secretary of NSLSA, Nino Iralu, said the refresher training will focus on what best measure can be taken up for various constitutional rights and welfare schemes.

“As PLVs based in all corners of the district, we are into the preventive measures for the marginalised and weaker sections of the society,” Iralu said adding that “the NSLSA have been creating a lot of awareness sensitising people on legal rights and privileges.”

Iralu also expressed her happiness to see attendance from far flung villages from different districts.

Resource persons for the day-one were Ashu Theyo, legal aid counsel-cum-trainer, NLSAL; Cheliam Khiamniungan, master trainer, NSLSA; Rupin Sharma, Director General of Prison Nagaland; Dr. Khriesotuo Paphino, Deputy Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare; Er. L Nungshiyanger Aier, Labour Commissioner, Department of Labour; Raitale Zeliang, Programme Manager of State Child Protection Society, Nagaland; Juliana Medom, Assistant State Coordinator, State Resource Centre for Women; and Alemwapang Ao, TOT (PLV) NSLSA.
