Phek sessions court sentences one person to life imprisonment
DIMAPUR — The Court of District and Sessions Judge, Phek, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after being convicted of killing a person more than 12 years ago.
The judgment and conviction order passed by Neiko Akami, District and Sessions Judge of Phek, on August 31 2023, stated that the incident took place on July 21, 2011, when the accused Kuvekho Tunyi and deceased Zuneyo Puro of Kikruma village went hunting.
It was reported that the victim was shot dead and the body was found by his brother on the night of the incident, as indicated by the accused, while he was looking for them after they didn’t return home, read the order issued by Samuel Ritse, Public Prosecutor, Phek.
“Based on circumstantial evidence and expert opinion, the accused was proved to have shot dead the deceased, accordingly, the accused was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment under section 302/201 IPC r/w Section 27 (1) of Arms Act 1959,” it said.
The order went on to say that the deceased had been a victim of crime, and an amount of INR 2 lakh would be paid under the Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012.
The case was investigated by Khuzah Jurry, SDPO, Pfutsero, it added.
