Phek healthcare workers trained on maternal, neonatal care

DIMAPUR — A three-day Dakshata training at the District Hospital Phek, was conducted from September 26 to the 28th, attended by medical officers (MOs), general nursing and midwifery (GNM) professionals, and community health officers (CHOs).

The main objectives of the Dakshata training were to train healthcare workers (HCWs) to identify and address the common causes of maternal and neonatal deaths, adhere to essential standards, and emphasise the importance of quality care during childbirth, according to an update.

The training focused on ensuring proper clinical practices for routine care and the management of issues during various stages of labour.

The training also aimed to empower service providers at delivery points to perform evidence-based practices for maternity care during labour, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality.

The facilitators of the training were Dr. Pangertemsu (OBG), Azole (M.Sc. Nursing), and Velulu (GNM), all from the District Hospital Phek.

Some of the topics covered during the training included ensuring quality in the labour room, monitoring vital signs, managing pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, addressing prolonged and obstructed labour, essential newborn care (ENBC), care for mothers and newborns immediately after birth, and handling postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), among others.
