DIMAPUR — The newly elected Congress Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, on Friday said the mandate given to him was a sign that people of Nagaland have finally come to realise that a party-less government is not good for them since it cannot deliver the rights of the people.

Jamir said this during an interaction with media persons here at Dimapur Airport before his departure to Delhi to report to the Parliament for the formalities and also to attend the Congress Working Committee (CWC) consultative meeting slated for June 8.

The MP-elect also observed that the people of Nagaland really needed a change and assured that the Congress party would bring the change, whether they sit in the opposition or form the government, when the time comes.

When asked about speculations of former Lok Sabha MP, Tokheho Yepthomi, joining the Congress, he commented that anyone is welcomed and even the BJP leaders can resign and join the party.

On leadership issue within the Congress party, he replied that if there is no unity in the party, he “wouldn’t be standing here today.”

On Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma,’s statement that a specific religion did not support the NDA in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Manipur, Jamir quipped saying, “They are accepting that they were wrong.”
