Parents told to let children follow their passion

KOHIMA — The commissioner and secretary for School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, on Thursday called upon the parents to let their children pursue career basing on their passion in order to enable them excel in life.

She stated this while speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of a state-level art competition 2024 held in commemoration of 50th year anniversary celebration of Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) at NBSE conference hall in Kohima. She asserted that allowing children to follow their passion would enable them to express themselves and gain the confidence.

The official congratulated the participants for making it to the state level competition and acknowledged the schools, mentors and teachers for taking the students to the extent.

She has described art as an expression of ideas, imagination, which promotes innovation and critical thinking. Highlighting that the National Education Policy (NEP) underscores the importance of critical thinking, she added that arts is one that could promote critical thinking.

She advised the students to continue honing their skills saying that ‘nothing comes easy without hard work and practice.’

The commissioner and secretary also delved into the voyage that the NBSE had taken over the years with humble beginning, which has now become a board to be reckoned at the national level. She expressed gratitude to all those who have involved in bringing the NBSE to the present level.

She said that the board has produced thousands of students, who are currently holding responsible positions as leaders, innovators, change makers, statesman in the state and outside.

She expressed gratitude to those who have contributed by enabling the board to come thus far and making it as one of the best in the country. While mentioning that there are rooms for improvement, she further urged the board to set its goal and target with the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Also speaking on the occasion, NBSE chairperson, Asano Sekhose, stated that commemorating the 50th anniversary with various activities and art competitions was an expression of creativity and imagination.

It was informed that prior to the state-level event, district-level competition were held wherein a total of 621 students from 219 schools from 16 districts participated in the competition.

Lemchile Sangtam from Mezhür Higher Secondary School in Kohima won the first prize. She was awarded cash prize of INR 20,000 with certificate.

Mesanei Kuotsu from Eden Academy in Mokokchung won the second prize and awarded with cash amount of INR 15,000 and certificate, while Nutho Tunyi from Chakhesang Mission Higher Secondary School in Pfütsero won the third prize. He was awarded with cash prize of INR 10,000 with certificate.
