Dimapur, April 21 (EMN): ‘Padhna Likhna Abhiyan’ was launched in Kiphire district during a programme conducted at the office of the deputy commissioner’s conference hall on April 21.

Delivering the keynote address, director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe said that the department has invited teachers to the programme as they play an important role in transforming the society and could effectively execute the programme, a DIPR report stated.

He encouraged the church, village councils and village education committee to assist the teachers in educating children. He also urged the teachers to be dedicated and sincere in their duties in order to give quality education to children and asked to update themselves.

Stating that many government high schools in the state are facing problem due to shortage of headmasters, he informed that the department is trying to address the issue at the earliest.

In a short speech, SDO (C), Kiphire, James Khulu Tikhir stated that the purpose of the programme was to achieve total literacy by 2030. He exuded confidence that the target could be achieved through collective efforts. He added that teachers could play an important role for transforming society.

The programme was chaired by LDA of DEO office, Bovika A, while the welcome address was delivered by AEO, Wobenthung Lotha, and the vote of thanks was delivered by supervisor of School Education, A Rankhaba.

Report also stated that representatives from three blocks namely Pungro, Longmatra and Khongsa attended the programme.
