Orientation programme held for Salesian College freshers
DIMAPUR — A two-day orientation and capacity building programme for the freshers of Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, was conducted by Dr. Fr. Peter Salew, Alan Paul, and Claire Mahung of the DBYES team on June 19 and 20.
The sessions included inputs, singing, party games, brainteasers, and riddles, according to a press release.
Salew, speaking on the occasion, emphasised the preventive system of education, guiding students towards learning and knowledge through reason, religion, and loving kindness. Recalling Don Bosco’s educational principles, he highlighted that the educator did everything for the welfare of young students.
Mahung, in her speech, stressed the importance of personality and attitude development. She noted that as students enter college and interact with peers, it is crucial to cultivate qualities such as kindness, gentleness, sociability, and helpfulness.
Paul focused on leadership, time management, and stress management. He emphasised that stress is a natural response to challenges, but chronic stress can adversely affect health and well-being.
He noted that stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, exercise, and time management, are essential skills that all students should possess.
According to him, setting realistic goals and maintaining a healthy work-life balance are crucial for long-term stress reduction.
