DIPHU — The All India Karbi Students’ Union (AIKSU) and Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate Union staged a protest on Tuesday against Abdul Kayum Talukdar, an alleged land mafia, on the Assam-Nagaland inter-state border at Lahorijan in the Karbi Anglong district.

Mensing Teron, general secretary of AIKSU, addressing the media on the occasion, alleged that Talukdar, headman of New Market, Dimapur, attempted to illegally occupy land at Nirmal Tea Estate and Lahorijan Tea Estate.

Teron also claimed that Talukdar was collecting monthly house rents and questioned his authority and legitimacy.

The residents of Nirmal Kumar Tea Estate, along with union members, also expressed their resentment against Talukdar and his associates, Harmus Ali, Rafiqul Ali, and Habei Ali, and demanded their arrest.

Furthermore, the union called upon the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and the Land and Revenue department to intervene in the matter and take strict action against Talukdar.
