DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organisation (NZPO) has expressed strong disapproval of the planned inauguration of the incomplete Kohima-Dzüleke-Pedi-Peren road, scheduled for October 12.

In a statement on Friday, the organisation expressed serious concerns about public safety, stating that “several critical sections of the road, including key bridges, remain under construction, making the inauguration both ‘illogical and unacceptable.’”

It further pointed out that crucial stretches of the road lack blacktopping, causing ongoing difficulties for commuters.

The NZPO insisted that the authorities immediately halt the planned event and prioritise the completion of the project to ensure the safety and comfort of the public.

Stating that it would closely monitor the situation and hold the responsible authorities accountable, it demanded an immediate halt to the inauguration event, underscoring that inviting dignitaries, including Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, should occur only after the project is completed to the highest standards.

Further, the NZPO urged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to avoid presenting “half-cooked” projects to the public.

Earlier on Oct. 10, the Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) had also opposed the inauguration, citing risks to public safety.

Expressing support to the WAPO, the Western Angami Students’ Union (WASU) also issued a separate statement, urging authorities to halt the inauguration and prioritise the road’s proper completion before opening it to the public.
