DIPHU — Several student organisations, civil societies, and NGOs in the Karbi Anglong district strongly condemned the alleged attack on members of the Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) on February 15 at Kheroni Chariali in West Karbi Anglong district.

In a press statement, the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU) condemned the attack on KSA members and demanded that the Assam Police and the Assam government take immediate action against those responsible for the deplorable incident.

The conspirators must be held accountable under the law to contain the escalation of the event, it said, adding that the incident occurred as members of the KSA were returning from Dongkamukam after a democratic demonstration programme aimed at reviewing the status of village grazing reserve (VGR) and professional grazing reserve (PGR) lands under the administration control of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and to evict all illegal settlers.

The Hmar Students’ Association of Karbi Anglong also condemned the recent assault on KSA members, calling for strict action against those responsible for the cowardly attack.

The Karbi Anglong Baptist Convention (KABC), representing the baptist churches in Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, and Kamrup Metro, which comprise eight language communities, also expressed deep concern over the incident.

The West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee also condemned the incident and expressed support for the demand to evict the VGR and PGR lands in the KAAC area.
