Organisations bat for earliest amicable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue
Dimapur, May 27 (EMN): The office of the Sümi Hoho has expressed their dismay over the current media tirade between NSCN (IM) and Naga leaders including Dr. SC Jamir .
An update from the Hoho stated, ‘For more than half a century, Nagas have been eagerly anticipating an amicable political solution to the vexed Naga political issue. However, much to the disappointment of the Naga people, the issue has been dragging on thus far. The hopes and aspirations of the Nagas have almost reached a point, where all hopes have faded and the patience and trust on the negotiating parties has slowly reached the lowest diminishing point’.
“The tribal Hohos and organisations of Nagaland have been demanding to the government of India and Naga national political groups to bring out the ‘charter of demands/competencies’ to the public domain as the demands are for the people. However, despite the repeated demands of the Naga public, much are still concealed. We are of the view that such ‘hidden competencies’ should be brought to the knowledge of all the stakeholders before the inking of the final agreement to avoid any ‘acceptance issues’ that may arise post-agreement and the negotiating parties should be aware of such facts”, it read.
Pointing out that Naga public leaders like Dr. SC Jamir, Y Patton, Temjen Imna Along and others have voiced out the minds of the people. As stakeholders, every concerned Naga leaders have the right to express their views, opinions and facts to the people in the interest of early political solution to the vexed Naga issue, it said.
‘At such a juncture, it is expected from every Naga leaders and organisations to focus on the earliest amicable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue rather than exchanging war of words, which could derail the peaceful atmosphere and cause adverse developments on the hopes of the Naga people on the ongoing peace process. Therefore, the Sümi Hoho has appealed to all the Naga National political group leaders and the public leaders to refrain from attacking each other, but instead come to an understanding. The Hoho also urged the Nagas to extend their full co-operation towards the cause.
Similarly, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has also expressed their resentment over the recent allegations hurled against Dr. S C Jamir by NSCN (IM) regarding statements made on the Naga political issue.
A press statement from AKM said, ‘Dr. S C Jamir a Naga of unrivalled quality and ability, many people will never be able to match his wisdom and contributions. We want to know if all of Dr. S C Jamir’s comments are incorrect, what is the truth, and can the truth be given to Naga citizens?’.
‘For decades, Naga citizens have quietly endured extortion of national workers, but we have been denied the Naga solution. For how long will the Naga citizens be kept in the dark?’, it said.
Reiterating that competencies that are being negotiated with the government of India on the basis of the Framework Agreement be made public, the AKM further affirmed its support for Dr. S C Jamir, and asserted that it would not remain silent if he is further subjected to any adversity.
Meanwhile, the Central Nagaland Students’ Association had a meeting with Dr. S C Jamir at his residence (Chumoukedima) on May 27.
While urging the concerned Naga citizens to stop levelling accusations against each other and work in unity towards peaceful Naga solution, it extended its support to all national workers who are working persistently to find a solution to the Naga problem.
The association further stated that it supports the statements of the Central Nagaland Tribes Council that it is high time for Nagas of Nagaland to be ‘relieved off the burden of Naga political movement’ and allow Nagas of Nagaland to progress at par with other states.
