DIMAPUR — A training workshop on organic farming organised by The Green Caravan, service provider for Phase 4 of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) under Nagaland Agriculture department, was held at Meluri Village Council hall on September 27.

The workshop was held for farmers from the villages of Riehoupe, Khumiasu and Meluri under the Meluri Organic Producer Company Ltd, established under MOVCDNER Phase 4, an update stated.

In his address during the programme, sub-divisional agricultural officer (SDAO), Mhonchumo Lotha, encouraged the farmers to uphold the principles of organic farming, as set out in the MOVCDNER scheme, and assured them of all possible support from the department.

He emphasised the importance of sustainable farming practices and the long-term benefits of organic certification for the farmers and the region.

The technical session focused on essential aspects of organic farming. Farmers received comprehensive training on the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) guidelines for organic certification, as well as Internal Control System (ICS) management at the farmer level.

The session also included a strategic analysis of market trends, aiming to develop and strengthen market linkages for the region’s organic produce.

Farmers actively participated in the session, addressing crop-related queries and discussing the way forward for improving their crop yields and organic practices.

This initiative is expected to play a significant role in boosting organic farming in the region and empowering the local farming community through better market access and sustainable agricultural practices, it stated.
